In the book Cirque du freak Darren (one of the main characters) changes a lot in the story. He goes from being a normal average kid that goes to school has friends and is happy. Then he turns into a vicious, bloodsucking vampire. It all starts when Darren’s friend Adam find a flyer for this show Cirque Du Freak. The show stands for show of freaks. When Darren and his friend Steve get the chance to go to this freak show they see a lot of weird things but Darren shows this great interest in madam Octa. Madam Octa is a very dangerous spider. One bit paralyzes and the second bit will kill. About on week after the show Darren decides to steal the spider. When Darren does steal the spider he keeps the spider in his closet so that know one finds it. He feeds and talk to the spider so that hopefully know one finds the spider.
One day Steve comes over to see Darren. When Steve comes into Darren’s room Darren shows Steve the spider. After a while of seeing the spider they let him out. He is crawling all around the room and then Darren’s little sister Annie comes in. When you make loud noises the spider attacks. The spider went after Katie but Steve blocked it and the spider landed on Steve and bit him. One bit means that Steve is now paralyzed. He goes to the hospital and the only person that knows how this happened is Darren and Annie. When Steve cant get help the only person that might know is how to cure him is the owner of madam Octa, Mr. Crepsley. When Darren confronts Mr. Crepsley he says that he will save Steve if Darren becomes a assistant and is willing to become a half vampire and turn into a full vampire in later years.
Darren thinks about Mr. Crepsleys offer and decides that he accepts it. Then as soon as he says yes Mr. Crepsley turn Darren into a half vampire they go back to save Steve. Darren changes a lot because he goes from a human to a half vampire. Darren eventually has to run away with Mr. Crepsley so they fake Darren death and Mr. Crepsley and Darren run away together forgetting Darren’s family, friends, and dreams.
